Many thanks to Chris and Claire Irving of Bonshaw for inviting us to Bonshaw, Kirtlebridge, at the weekend, and for their generous hospitality. The magnificent 16th century Scottish Border peel tower has been the seat of the Irving family for nearly 900 years.
We loved our tour of the tower, the Georgian house and the extensive gardens. It was wonderful to learn about Bonshaw’s role in the complex and turbulent history of the Borders, and to see the care that Chris and Claire are putting into managing the fabric of the building. And the tea and homemade cakes were delicious!
Thanks too to Andy and Jan Ritchie for inviting us to see their wonderful work at Cove (Dunskellie) and Brackenhill Tower on the way home.
